University: I teach cello and bass lessons at the college level for Minot State University, as well as Music Theory, A/V Production, Chamber Music, and History of Rock & Pop. Dianna and I also collaborate on a Culinary Arts course through the MSU Honors program. I love teaching and I love working with students. Always knew I wanted to be involved in higher ed. Despite the current national climate against thoughtfulness and curiosity, this is where I belong and I am truly happy in the classroom.
Private: I am available for both occasional and regular lessons, either in person or through Zoom, for students of all ages. I enjoy helping musicians work through matters of technique, interpretation, practice strategies, and performance readiness. Recent examples include a student who wanted to learn a youtube piece by ear and a graduate student who was just about to win a professional seat in an American orchestra (congrats!). Email me if interested in scheduling a session.
Conducting and Classroom work: Guest conducting festivals and daily classes is a joy, working through details of interpretation, expressivity and the technique to bring it to life. Recent visits include high school concert band, jazz band, and orchestra programs in Minot, Devils Lake, Grand Forks, and Jamestown. Honored to have been the conductor for the Bismarck Middle School All-City Honors Orchestra (2021, 22, & 23) and twice as the Rapid City Strings in Concert “famous conductor”, featuring nearly 1000 students from grades 4-8.
Arranging: The opportunity to play new music and to adapt music to fit beginning to advanced ensembles is a joy. I love taking music students know and putting it in their reach. Happy to loan these as they are or help adapt them for your group! Just ask.
